TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Inspector General Firli Bahuri was elected by the House of Representatives (DPR) as chair of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for the 2019-2024 period. Based on the voting conducted after the due diligence in the Parliament yesterday, September 12, Firli got the most votes with 56 votes.
Firli delivered his agendas for the antigraft body during yesterday's due diligence. Firstly, he agrees with having a supervisory mechanism, saying the KPK needs it. This automatically means that he supports the revision of the KPK Law, which includes an article on KPK supervision.
His second agenda is to promote prevention rather than conducting sting operations. Firli said he is not a fan of the sting operation, and prefers to promote mitigation approaches, which he said is a more effective method in combatting corruption rather than capturing corruptors.
"No matter how many corruptors we arrest, it would not end corruption," he remarked.
His third agenda is to synergize KPK employees — making them have one goal. The fourth agenda is to improve the agency's facilities and infrastructure.
His last or fifth agenda is to establish cooperation with district/ city law enforcers, arguing that the vast territory of Indonesia makes it impossible for the KPK to work alone. Firli said he wants to establish cooperation with other institutions such as the BPKP, BPK, and law enforcement in regional districts.
