TEMPO.CO, Manokwari - The riot in Manokwari has ended and West Papua Governor Dominggus Mandacan said that he has met Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati to submit a regional budget list. The budget is needed to rebuild the government’s facilities that were burnt during the riot on August 19.
Three weeks ago, a rally turned into a riot in Manokwari and damaged several provincial facilities. The mob fired buildings of the Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) and Papua People's Assembly (MRP).
“Regarding the damaged facilities, on Monday (Sept 9), I went to Jakarta to meet Finance Minister and submit the damage list, budget draft, and proposals. I have also contacted the President through State Secretary Ministry and Home Affairs Ministry, PUPR Ministry, and other ministries,” said Dominggus in Manokwari, Thursday, September 12.
According to him, Minister Sri said that the damage caused by the riot will be a joint responsibility of central and regional administration, and so they will share the budget.
“For the construction of West Papua DPRD building, we propose Rp200 billion, while MRP building at Rp150 billion, so the total budget proposed is Rp350 billion,” Dominggus outlined, adding that the percentage share of the budget yet to be set so far.
“We will discuss it further. The region's capability is limited because we have to develop the infrastructure and human resources as well,” he said.
As for damages and losses dealt by the people, Dominggus said that Social Ministry had distributed over Rp7 billion for Papua and West Papua. The distribution took place in Jayapura a few days ago.
