SBY Recalls BJ Habibie as Father of Democracy and Technology

12 September 2019 14:00 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Sixth Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono or SBY recalled his relationship with Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie or BJ Habibie at the late scholar’s house on Wednesday.

SBY expressed deep loss to journalists who were at the location; “I have a close personal relationship with [Habibie],” said SBY who said that the friendship between the two was established before Habibie became president.

He recalled that he became even closer after the passing of his wife, Ani Yudhoyono, on June 1, 2019. At the time Habibie paid a visit to Ani Yudhoyono during her hospitalization in Singapore prior to her death. SBY recalled that he was considered as an elder brother to Habibie.

“[Habibie] is not just a father of the reformation, democracy, but also the father figure of technology,” SBY asserted.

As previously reported, at around 18:05 Indonesia Western Time (WIB) BJ Habibie succumbed to heart failure at the age of 83 while under the medical supervision of medical experts at the army hospital (RSPAD) Gatot Subroto.
