TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Jakarta governor Basuki Tjahja Purnama or Ahok delivered his condolences for the death of Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie. The third president of Indonesia known as BJ Habibie passed away this afternoon at the Central Jakarta Army Hospital.
"My deepest condolences over the passing of Indonesia's 3rd President BJ Habibie," Ahok posted to his Twitter account Wednesday evening, September 11.
Ahok said that the man born in Pare-Pare, South Sulawesi was one of Indonesia's best sons.
"May God give him the best place," Ahok said.
Habibie died after receiving treatment at the ICU of Gatot Subroto Army Hospital since Monday for declining organ function and heart failure. He was 83.
During his life, Habibie also held a number of important positions including the CEO of Industri Pesawat Terbang Nusantara (IPTN)—the former name of Dirgantara Indonesia (PT DI), Minister of Research and Technology, and Vice President to Soeharto in 1998.
