Bukalapak Eyes to be First Profitable Ecommerce Following Layoff

11 September 2019 09:01 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Responding to questions of the recent company layoff, Bukalapak corporate communication chief Intan Wibisono said that they are seeking to make adjustments that would further sustain the company’s business and become the first profitable e-commerce.

“We are eyeing to become the first unicorn e-commerce that is profitable. With enough business performance achievements and capital, we are eyeing to not just reach our break-even point soon, but also profit,” said Intan on Tuesday, September 10.

She explained that Bukalapak intends to focus on its core business that first started as a marketplace, which is why the company decided not to establish its own payment method or logistical needs. The aforementioned elements, she said, can be done via business partnerships from dedicated companies in the field.

“Why haven’t we explored e-payment? That’s because we can work in partnership with Dana,” said Intan who suggested the same goes to logistics service companies.

She assured that these steps will sustain Bukalapak’s business in the future and help them seek profit and asserts that the issues surrounding the company are not a sign of bankruptcy.
