Livi Zheng Reports 3 Media for Defamation to Press Council

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Film director Livi Zheng, accompanied by her lawyer Hulman Jufri Oktario Simatupang, has reported three national media to the Press Council for alleged defamation on Monday, September 9. The three media are Geotimes.co.id, Tirto.id, and Asumsi.co.

“The articles they wrote were inaccurate and intent on killing my character. So I report them to the Press Council,” said Livi at the Press Council office in Jakarta.

The "Bali: Beats of Paradise" movie maker also expressed her objections that the news media published coverages about her sans confirmation.

Livi has been in the public limelight after, besides reporting the three media, engaging in a row with filmmakers Joko Anwar and John de Rantau. When they met in a talk show broadcasted by Metro TV last week, Livi stressed that her film was nominated in Oscar 2018 for the Best Picture category.

Joko Anwar refuted her statement and said that "Bali: Beats of Paradise" was a documentary movie so it could not be matched up with feature films to win the Best Picture Academy Awards.

“On the website of Oscar, the duration of a feature film should be over 40 minutes. A film can be categorized as a feature based on duration, not the genre. It can be a documentary, drama, action. These panelists do not understand this, he insists. He never works in America,” she said as a guest on the YouTube channel of Deddy Corbuzier on Saturday, September 7.

Livi Zheng also said that Joko Anwar knew nothing about Oscar.
