TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Justice Coalition for Munir has demanded President Joko Widodo or Jokowi fulfill his promise to reveal the mastermind behind the assassination of human rights activist Munir. Fifteen years after Munir was murdered on September 7, 2005, the murderer remains unknown.
“I assert [the president] not to eat his own words. Fulfill a promise that was once made. If President Jokowi promised to solve it, then that promise must be kept,” said the wife of late Munir, Suciwati, at the KontraS headquarters on Friday, September 6.
According to the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras), Jokowi once expressed his commitment to solving the case in a 2016 meeting with legal experts at the State Palace.
KontraS coordinator Yati Andriyani regretted that the promise the president once made was still hanging sans any substantial development.
“There has been no significant act done by President Jokowi until the last leg of his first administration,” said Yati.
Yati added that one of the issues the president needed to address was the declassification the documents from the team that was dedicated to solving the Munir's murder case, the fact-finding team (TGPF).
KontraS once formally asked president Jokowi to reveal TGPF’s findings to the public but was met with the Supreme Court verdict stating that the State Secretary was not in possession of the highly important documents.
