TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Employees of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will hold a demonstration this afternoon, Friday, September 6. They plan to stage the theatrical protest at the commission's Merah Putih building in South Jakarta.

The staff plan to make a human chain around the building as a sign that the Corruption Eradication Commission will not allow people with no integrity as its leaders.

"We also reject the revision of the KPK Law," the anti-graft agency's employees forum chairman Yudi Purnomo Harahap said in a written statement, Friday, September 6.

Towards the end of the 2014-2019 term in October, DPR members agreed to discuss the revision of the KPK Law. There are six crucial points in the revision considered by some as an effort to weaken the anti-corruption commission.

The six changes would be to have the agent work under the government, establish its employees as state civil apparatus (ASN), the mandate to obtain a supervisory board's permit before wiretapping, the mandate to synergize with other law enforcement agencies, to have the Corruption Eradication Commission supervised by a board, and for the agency to be able to stop investigations and prosecutions.

Yudi said that the employees of the anti-graft agency will protest the DPR's decision in order to protect the institution. "This is also our way of showing commitment to and thanking the people of Indonesia."
