TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan planned to open up a small library in every MRT station in order to enhance a culture of reading among the people.
“Each MRT station will have a library,” said Anies in the Indonesia International Book Fair in JCC, South Jakarta, Wednesday, September 4.
Anies explained that every passenger can take out a book from their departure station and return it to their stop station.
The former minister of education and culture said the library will be built not too large, but simply a line of shelves. “Passengers can read a book during their trip,” he added.
Anies targeted that the library will start operational this year, and the city administration will cooperate with related parties.
Anies Baswedan hoped the opening of the library will progressively advance the reading culture and literacy among the people.
