TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Cellular communication operator Telkomsel stated that telephone and text services in Jayapura, Papua, is almost operating normally.
"Regarding the effect of Telkomsel service post the rally in Papua's capital, we'd like to inform you that telephone and SMS services in the city have been 90 percent recovered," VP Corporate Communications Telkomsel Denny Abidin said in a press statement released in Jakarta, August 31.
He said that the recovery process keeps ongoing but he cannot confirm yet on the operational of the service office (GraPARI) in the city.
Telkomsel continues to work together with the regional government, the police, TNI, Communication Ministry, and local authorities to take preventive measure in securing its assets and supporting facilities. In addition, a team was set to make sure the telecommunication service will soon be fully accessible.
Previously, Communication and Informatics Minister (Menkominfo) Rudiantara claimed that the disruption of cellular service in Jayapura and surrounding areas was sabotaged by unknown people who intentionally cut the main optic cable of the telecommunication network.
He explained that the telecommunication disruption in the region was not included in the government's policy since they only implemented bandwidth throttling.
The government has coordinated with the police and armed forces (TNI) to help secure the recovery process, especially toward the facilities in the open spaces.
