TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo told that he constantly monitors the development currently happening in Papua, especially in its capital Jayapura.
“I continue to follow the development and I have been briefed about the ongoing situation in Papua, and especially in Jayapura,” said the president during a 'Wayang Kulit' theatrical event in Purworejo, Central Java Thursday, August 29.
He then said that orders have been given to State Institution leaders to “act decisively” against those who violate the law, either through anarchy or acts of racism in Papua. The president's order was mandated to Coordinating Minister of Politics, Law, and Security Wiranto, National Police Chief Tito Karnavian, and State Intelligence Agency (BIN).
The former governor of Jakarta maintained that the government is deeply committed to advance Papua in terms of its physical infrastructures and its human resources.
As of the talks of holding a meeting between the president and chieftains, he says that it is just a matter of finding the right schedule but will be held as soon as possible.
“Let us all preserve Papua as a land of peace. I also urge every local figure, religious figure, chieftains, and Papua’s youths to actualize a developed and peaceful Papua,” said President Jokowi.
