TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A Mojokerto District Court Judge took national headlines for sentencing a pedophile to face the chemical castration punishment in a recent child rape case. However, this was not the judge’s first decisive sentencing as he once sentenced a child rapist to the death penalty on March 5, 2019.
“The case is under proses of cassation,” said Erhammudin, who is one of the panels of judges handling the case at the Mojokerto District Court on Tuesday, August 27.
The defendant slapped with the death sentence is Rosat (49), an unemployed man from Ngawi, East Java, who stayed at a neighbor’s house in Mojokerto prior to the crime he committed. Rosat’s victim was an 11-year-old girl who lives nearby.
The panel of judges deemed Rosat’s acts that caused the death of the 11-year-old to be “sadistic, cruel, and inhumane” and violates Law No.23/2002 on child protection.
“The panel of Judges handed the death penalty to [Rosat],” said Erhammudin.
The Mojokerto District Court judge’s verdict was far more severe than the initial 15-years imprisonment charged by the state prosecutor.
