BMKG Warns of Possible Storm and High Tides in Late August

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasts high-intensity rain over large areas of Indonesia from August 26 – August 28, 2019, following the Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO) that would cause tropical weather anomalies.
The agency warns possibly affected areas that include Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau, Riau Islands, Jambi, North Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, West Kalimantan, West Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, and West Java.
The agency’s meteorology deputy R. Mulyono R. Prabowo called for the public to closely monitor the effects of the strong weather. “Such as slippery roads, puddles, floods, flash floods, landslides, turbulent winds, and falling trees,” he says.
The agency also predicts high tides up to 2.5 meters – 4 meters over the waters in the North of Sabang, Sabang – Banda Aceh, the waters of West Aceh up to the Mentawai Islands, Enggano Bengkulu up to Lampung.
BMKG also announced possible high tides that will affect areas over the Sunda Strait, Bali Strait, Sawu Sea, Timor Sea, up to the Indian Ocean.
