TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The West Java Police Department announced that the suspect who perpetrated the burning of a police member in Cianjur, Ryan Suryana, will be handed a harsher penalty after the victim Police Insp. Erwin Yudha Wildani succumbed to injuries earlier today on Monday, August 26.
West Java Police Chief Grand Commissioner Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko says that the college student will face the maximum sentence of 12 years imprisonment.
“[The punishment will be set accordingly to] the Law that oversees crimes causing the death of people,” said Trunoyudo on Monday, August 26.
The 20-year old Ryan was named a suspect on August 16, 2019, after he allegedly threw a plastic bag filled with gasoline to a crowd in the midst of a heated protest in Cianjur. The suspect will highly likely be charged under Article 213 of the Criminal Law (KUHP) on violence enacted against law enforcers.
“8 years and 6 months imprisonment for acts that cause injuries while the 12-year maximum sentence is handed to those causing a [law enforcers’] death,” said Trunoyudo.
Erwin Yudha Wildani died in Pertamina main hospital (RSPP) after a fire engulfed 65 percent of his body in securing the protest that went horribly wrong in Cianjur.
