TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s men’s double badminton team Hendra - Ahsan has snatched the top trophy at the 2019 BWF World Championships final round on Sunday after defeating Japan’s Takuro Hoki - Yugo Kobayashi 25-23; 9-21; 21-15.
The Indonesian shuttlers battled Japan’s pair for one hour and four minutes in the match held at St. Jakobshall Basel, Switzerland.
Mohammad Ahsan - Hendra Setiawan’s win marks the third world title for the pair that is also known as “The Daddies.” The pair previously clinched the titles in 2013 and 2015.
“This is the definition of a champion’s mentality. They looked like they played even with a younger Japanese athlete who was physically better, quicker, and durable. Hendra’s performance at the second and third dropped slightly, but they had a great mentality,” said The Daddies’ coach Herry IP after the match ended.
The pair’s success in the 2019 BWF World Championships is also a fitting present for Hendra Setiawan who on Sunday, August 25, celebrates his 35th birthday.
