TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - The ride-hailing app firm Grab Indonesia is set to launch an online-based iconic local transportation Andong in the 2019 Malioboro Night Festival, which will be held today, August 23.

The festival, initiated by Yogyakarta Tourism Agency will begin in the afternoon along Jalan Malioboro until the Monument of General Offensive of First March.

The governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X and Tourism Minister Arief Yahya are scheduled to lead the launching event.

“As planned, Grab will develop Andong transportation via an online system and will launch it in the festival,” said the Sultan in a written statement after receiving the unicorn’s visit in Kepatihan Complex, Yogyakarta, Thursday, August 22.

The province’s Transportation Agency head, Sigit Sapto Raharjo, said the online-based local transportation aimed at supporting regional tourism. “People who are willing to take Andong will know earlier the rate, the coachman, the color of andong, and prior set the destination. It’s similar to when we use GrabRide,” he said.

Additionally, Sultan HB X tried using e-scooter or GrabWheels, which was projected to be eco-friendly transportation to support the pedestrian area program of Malioboro in the future.

The 2019 Malioboro Night Festival will present live music, traditional art show, music concert featuring Tipe-X, Jembe Percussion, Kumlaka Ethnic, and others. A fashion show followed by a flashmob in the sidewalk will mark the beginning of the festival. As many as 20 models will exhibit clothing made from recycled materials.
