TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - House of Representatives (DPR) Deputy Speaker Fahri Hamzah urged President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to guarantee that there would not be any re-occurrence of the conflict in Papua.
“I'm asking you, please, especially executive officials who have the authority, such as the president, to spread peace and speak more than just stating the obvious such as calling for people’s patience. Don’t be like that,” said Fahri Hamzah at the Parliamentary Complex on Wednesday, August 21.
He called for the president to aid the despair and disappointment of the people of Papua and present a sense of guarantee that similar insults would be met with criminal charges, and those who provoked the string of violence to also be criminally charged.
Fahri maintained that in this case, the president should actively take charge in solving the issue and that it is essential for President Joko Widodo to respond with firm action.
