TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A flash flood triggered by heavy rains inundated and damaged tens of houses in South Aceh district Friday night. By Saturday evening, the flood had reportedly damaged tens of houses and affected 1,417 residents.

"Alhamdulillah (Thank God), the disaster claimed no lives. However, we are still assessing the extent of the damage," acting chief of the South Aceh District Disaster Mitigation Office (BPBD) Cut Syazalisma said when contacted from Meulaboh, West Aceh, Saturday evening.

It was believed that the flash flood was triggered by heavy rain that caused the river in the area to overflow.

The flood caused moderate damage to nine houses in Jambo Dalam village, Trumon Timur sub-district, South Aceh district, affecting 1,250 residents. It also damaged a number of houses, affecting 167 people in Kapai Seusak Village.
