TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani said the total beneficiary of the Indonesian Smart Card (KIP) for university students in 2020 would reach 818,000. The figure will be twice higher than that of Bidikmisi scholarship in 2019 at 463,600 students.
“The goal and the target of education development are stepped up to support the improvement of the quality of human resources,” said Sri at the Tax Directorate General office, Jakarta, Friday, August 16.
The beneficiary, she added, would comprise 398,000 Bidikmisi’s students and 420,000 new students.
The hike in the number of program recipients is in line with the increase in the budget, which is up to Rp7.5 trillion, up by 53 percent from that of Bidikmisi at Rp4.9 trillion last year.
Sri reiterated that each student would obtain Rp4.2 million per semester for living costs and Rp2.4 million for educational costs.
According to her, the program of Indonesian Smart Card (KIP) for university students aimed at providing wider opportunities for high schoolers from poor families to resume their education at universities. Hence, the program is expected to drop the unemployment rate.
“Preferred majors include vocation, polytechnic, and science and technology studies,” Sri Mulyani said.
