Pertamina to Distribute Oil Spill Compensation Next Week

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore Northwest Java or PHE ONWJ announced it will start to deliver compensation to the residents affected by its oil spill next week. The team recorded 66 villages in West Java, Jakarta and Banten are affected by the incident.

"Today, our team opens the registration to collect data at the village office. There are 66 affected villages spread in 7 regencies/cities," said team leader of PHE ONJW external impact management Rifky Efendy at Pertamina central office in Central Jakarta on Thursday, August 15. He added that the data collection is targetted to complete on Friday this week.

The state energy company asked the affected residents to fill a form with their complete personal data. The form contains the amount of compensation fund starting from the clean water until the health funds.

Meanwhile, the data verification will be assisted by the Marine Affairs and Fisheries Ministry's BRSDM research center, as well as the Departments of Marine Affairs and Fisheries in each city before Pertamina financial team calculate the amount of the compensation.

Hulu Pertamina director Dharmawan H. Samsu said his office has a special scheme in determining the compensation amount. "The amount is different. We have special schemes for fishermen that cannot go fishing, as well as for embankment owners," he said.

However, he was reluctant to reveal the fund prepared by PHE ONWJ for the oil spill compensation, assuring that it was taken from the corporate's reserve fund.
