Ex BPJS State Official Alleged Rape Case Dropped by Police

15 August 2019 12:14 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The investigation on the alleged rape case experienced by a former employee of the Workers Social Security Agency (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan) which implicated the agency’s former supervisory board member has officially been dropped by police.

Lawyer Popy Meilani Erwanti announced that client and victim of the case Rizky Amelia plans to hold an open discussion with the police to clarify the institution’s reason why the case was dropped and urge for the continuation of the case.

“Yes, it’s true that the investigation on the criminal act of molestation has been dropped,” said Popy to Tempo on Thursday, August 15.

According to Popy, she plans to involve the National Commission on Violence against Women (Komnas Perempuan) in the discussion with the police which will be held on Monday noon at 1 PM.

Former employee Rizky Amelia filed a police report against her former employer and the state agency's supervisory board member Syafri Adnan Baharuddin for alleged sexual violations by an employer which include rape and sexual molestation.

In her report, Amelia reported that Syafri Adnan Baharuddin had raped her four times from April 2016 to November 2018, in addition to the lewd text messages her former employer constantly sends her.

Lawyer Sri Suparyati, who also represents Amelia says that the elements described in the Law as acts of molestation are at the bare minimum. She expressed fear that the pieces of evidence her team submitted is legally not enough to be considered as acts of molestation by police.

This case grabbed public attention after President Jokowi issued Decree No. 12/P 2019 to dismiss Syafri Adnan from his position at the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan.
