Electric Motorcycles Suggested as Official Gov't Transportation

14 August 2019 09:56 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan suggests the procurement for Indonesian-made electric vehicles as the government’s official transportation for next year.

“I am thinking about reporting this to the president, as of having Indonesian-made electric motorcycles be included in next year’s State Budget (APBN). Take an example of Gesits or something similar,” said the Minister at the ‘Indonesianisme Summit 2019’ in Jakarta yesterday.

He says it relies on the idea of supporting locally-developed technologies that would hopefully spark constant development in the industry.

The ‘Indonesianisme Summit 2019’ is a series of events organized by the Alumni Association of the Bandung Institute of Technology Institute (IA-ITB) held in conjunction with the exhibition of 30 works made by Indonesian technopreneur.

“We might require [the use of local tech] to be used by the state-owned enterprises. We will try to push the work of the locals. If not, when would we start?” said Luhut Binsar.
