TEMPO.CO, Tangerang - State-run airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II) is set to revitalize Terminal 1C of Soekarno-Hatta Airport starting August 15, 2019.
The airport’s Senior Manager of Branch Communication and Legal, Febri Toga Simatupang, said that the revitalization project will be started from Terminal 1C and later Terminal 1B and 1A.
“During the revitalization, Terminal 1C will stop operating temporarily,” said Febri, Monday, August 12.
Airliners operating in Terminal 1C, namely Citilink, Trigana Air, and Airfast Indonesia, will move their operation. Citilink will be in Terminal 2 domestic, while Trigana and Airfast to Terminal 1B.
According to Febri, the revitalization project, which is the first since the airport operates in 1985, aims to improve the service and the airport capacity. In 2018, the total visitors reached 67 million, while the capacity is only up to 43 million people.
“The current terminal is considered inadequate to cater to the increasing number of passengers,” Febri added. However, he stressed that the renovation will maintain the initial design of the airport. The project is targeted to complete within 360 days and will have broadened area of the central corridor, connecting boarding lounge, check-in counter, and others by implementing the technology as well.
“Various digital-based services, such as digital lounge, game station, digital wayfinding, smart baggage, will be provided there,” Febri said.
Other than Terminal 1, the revitalization project in Terminal 2 is also progressing. So Soekarno-Hatta airport will be capable to accommodate 75 million passengers per year.
