TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Solo Manufaktur Kreasi responsible for producing the Esemka car is set to ratify a letter of intent (LOI) with the automotive industry at the Ministry of Industry in South Jakarta today to venture the business as an official local car manufacturing brand.
According to Harjanto, acting as the Ministry’s Director General of Metal, Machine, Transportation and Electronic Industry, said that the subject of the LOI is to give birth to a truly local automotive brand called Esemka, unlike the current LCGC cars that are mostly international brands with localized components.
“LCGCs totally knocked-down components have reached 80 percent components, that, we have accomplished. What we are talking about is to produce a national car,” said Harjanto in a seminar held at the Ministry’s headquarters.
He also urged other car producers to increase its use of localized components in the products they sell in Indonesia. “We are hoping for the letter of intent to later become a letter of agreement.”
