TEMPO.CO, JakartaIndonesia is targeting to clinch one title at a global badminton tournament, the 2019 BWF World Championships. A total of 27 players are deployed to compete in the tournament, which will be held on August 19-25 at St. Jakobshalle in Basel, Switzerland.

“The target is one title from any sector. But the highest possibility is in men’s doubles,” said Susy Susanti, the Indonesian Badminton Association's (PBSI) head of development and achievement, as quoted from PBSI’s website.

Men’s doubles are considered to have the highest chance to bag a gold medal as seen from the team’s achievement in the last two matches: Blibli Indonesia Open and 2019 Japan Open, which were won by Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan, respectively.

“But there are mixed doubles and men’s singles in Japan Open, hopefully, they will give a surprise and have more stable achievement. Because the Olympic is nearing, anything is possible. This goes in other countries as well,” Susy added.

The PBSI announced that the Indonesian team would depart to Switzerland on Wednesday, August 14, onboard Turkish Airlines at 21:00 Jakarta team.

The list of players in the 2019 BWF World Championships is as follows:

Men’s singles: Jonatan Christie, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, Tommy Sugiarto.

Women’s singles: Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, Fitriani.

Men’s doubles: Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon, Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto, Berry Angriawan/Hardianto, Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan.

Women’s doubles: Greysia Polii/Apriyani Rahayu, Della Destiara Haris/Rizki Amelia Pradipta, Jauza Fadhila Sugiarto/Yulfira Barkah.
