TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Asylum seekers living in the former building of the West Jakarta Military Command (Kodim) in Daan Mogot, Kalideres, are now depending on the public help to provide them aids after Jakarta administration stopped the assistance.
“There was a Korean company giving 1,000 pieces of bread,” said the Head of Social Reintegration Protection of Jakarta Social Agency, Nurshobah, Thursday, August 8.
According to Nurshobah, the aid was received by the officer on duty and delivered to the refugee coordinator for distribution. “People living around the area also give help,” she added.
Based on Tempo observation at the site, the aid given by donors is in the form of bread, snacks, bottled water, diapers, and sanitary napkins. It was recorded there were 25 names of donors as of Thursday afternoon.
Previously, Jakarta Social Agency head Irmansyah said that logistic aids, such as food and beverages, for asylum seekers would end on July 31 due to lack of budget. However, the city administration in tandem with PLN and PD PAM Jaya continued to provide clean water.
"Also, they are still allowed to occupy the ex-Kodim for an unspecified time," Irmansyah said.
