TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Commission VII member of the House of Representatives (DPR), Kurtubi, demanded the government hold an independent investigation in light of the major blackout that occurred in Jakarta, West Java, and Banten. Kurtubi opined the state electricity firm PLN should not be involved in the investigation.
“We will continue to push an independent investigation,” said Kurtubi during a discussion in DPR media center, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, August 6.
Kurtubi made the statement since the cause of the massive outage yet to be found, and there are some issues about the cause circulate in the public. According to PLN, the power outage was triggered by disturbances in the transmission system of its extra-high voltage air duct (SUTET) in Ungaran-Pemalang.
Meanwhile, based on the police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim), it was caused by a tall tree that grew over the safe limits, causing an electrical arc flash to the transmission tower.
“We expect an honest, fair explanation about the cause so we can take conclusion and lesson from this incident,” said Kurtubi.
During a hearing meeting with the DPR Commission VII on Tuesday, August 6, the PLN acting president director Sripeni Inten Cahyani asserted her side would conduct a thorough investigation on the Sunday’s blackout.
