TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) Bambang Brodjonegoro announced the country’s official preparation to move from Jakarta to Kalimantan will commence as early as the year 2020.
“The president will soon announce the definitive location [of the new capital city]. The preparation will start to be commenced in 2020, including its legal basis,” said Bambang at the president’s office on Tuesday, August 6.
According to Bambang, the costs to hold the capital move is listed in the 2020 State Budget Plan (RAPBN) that will cover the costs to do an initial land clearing which will be followed by a complete construction in 2021. The government is eyeing to meet its deadline in commencing the first phase of the capital move in 2024.
As reported numerous times, Jokowi assured that the move to Kalimantan will actually be done. As of the exact location in Kalimantan, the president says he will announce it in the near future.
“[BPPN have to] start preparing a financing scheme that is either sourced from the APBN or non-APBN,” said the president in the second capital move meeting on Tuesday, August 6.
The capital city move is closely related to the country’s future vision on economics, demographics, socio-political affairs, and security.
