Major Blackout does not Disrupt Toll Road Services: Jasa Marga

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned toll operator PT Jasa Marga ensured that a major blackout affecting the areas of Jakarta, Banten, West Java, Central Java, and East Java on Sunday did not disrupt the cashless transaction payments at toll gates.

"Alhamdulillah (Thank God), the cashless transaction system at toll gates that Jasa Marga operates still work normally," Jasa Marga Spokesperson Irra Susiyanti told ANTARA on Sunday.

The power outage did not disrupt the services at all toll roads that Jasa Marga manages and operates, she said.

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN (Persero) has expressed an apology for this major blackout. PLN claimed that it was caused by the trips on the Suralaya Turbine Gas from number 1 to 6 while its turbine gas number 7 was off.

At the same time, the Cilegon Gas Turbine Combined-Cycle (GTCC) Power Plant also experienced a trip or error. As a result, the power outage hit residents living in Jakarta's greater areas.

It also disrupted the capital city's commuter line and MRT services as well as cellular phone services.

The major blackout also hit those residing in West Java Province's areas due to a troubled 500 kV Ultrahigh Voltage Transmission. The affected areas include Bandung, Bekasi, Cianjur, Cimahi, Cirebon, Garut, Karawang, Purwakarta, Majalaya, Sumedang, Tasikmalaya, Depok, Gunung Putri, Sukabumi, and Bogor.

At around 04:50 p.m. local time, the electricity returned to normal for those living in the city of Bogor and its surrounding areas.
