PLN: Power Outage due to Disruption of Electricity Plants in Java

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned Electricity Company PLN apologized for the massive power outages in a number of areas in Jakarta to Bandung, West Java, and their surrounding areas. PLN said this incident occurred due to disruptions in a number of plants in Java.

"We deeply apologize for the blackouts that occur, right now we are continuing efforts to normalize the situation, and even some of the main substations have started to successfully lit," said Executive Vice President of Corporate Communication & CSR of PLN, I Made Suprateka, in his official statement in Jakarta on Sunday , 4 August 2019.

The first disturbance occurred due to Gas Turbine 1 to 6 Suralaya experienced a trip (failure), while Gas Turbine 7 is currently in the off position (pff). In addition, the Cilegon Turbine Gas Power Plant, Banten, also experienced a disruption or trip. "This disruption has caused power outages in Jabodetabek (Greater Jakarta) area," he said.

The second disturbance occurred in West Java, namely the 500 kV SUTET Transmission. As a result, power outages occurred in a number of areas such as Bandung, Bekasi, Cianjur, Cimahi, Cirebon, Garut, Karawang, Purwakarta, Majalaya, Sumedang, Tasikmalaya, Depok, Gunung Putri, Sukabumi and Bogor.

"Once again we apologize and we understand that all customers are affected by this disturbance," said Made. PT PLN, he said, promised to make and exert as much effort as possible to improve the system so that electricity returns to normal.

Previously, power outage occurred in a number of areas in Jakarta simultaneously at around 12:00 WIB (Western Indonesian Time). One of them happened in the West Palmerah area, South Jakarta, the electricity flow in this area experienced power outage twice, but it had returned to normal at 12:15 WIB.

The outage of electricity or the power outage was immediately responded by netizens on Twitter with the hashtag #matilampu. They reported and uploaded photos about the situations at their locations.
