PLN Apologizes for Massive Power Outages

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned Electricity Company PLN apologized for the power outages in Jabodetabek (Greater Jakarta) area on Sunday, August 4, 2019. PLN's Executive Corporate Communications and CSR Executive Vice President, I Made Suprateka, said that the blackouts were due to disruptions at a number of power plants in Java.
"PLN apologizes for the blackouts that occurred due to Gas Turbines 1 to 6 Suralaya experienced a trip (failure), while Gas Turbine 7 is currently in the off position. In addition, the Cilegon Turbine Gas Power Plant also experienced a disruption or trip," said Made through written statement on Sunday, August 4, 2019.
Made said that this disruption resulted in power outages in Jabodetabek area, experiencing blackouts. "We apologize profusely for the blackout that occurred. At the moment we are continuing our efforts to normalize the situation, even some substations have started to be successfully lit, "he said.
As for West Java, disruption to the 500 kV SUTET Transmission resulted in the outages of a number of areas as follows; Bandung, Bekasi, Cianjur, Cimahi, Cirebon, Garut, Karawang, Purwakarta, Majalaya, Sumedang, Tasikmalaya, Depok, Gunung Putri, Sukabumi and Bogor.
"Once again we apologize and we truly understand that all customers affected by this disturbance, we promise to maximize our effort to improve the system so that electricity returns to normal," Made said.
