TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) secretary-general Hasto Kristiyanto reminded fellow political party members joined under President Jokowi’s coalition to not pressure the president as he composes his future cabinet members.
“The president makes the final choice and there shall not be any form of pressure in the cabinet formation,” said Hasto Kristiyanto in Jakarta on Thursday, August 1.
He reminded that Jokowi, as a person, was what the Indonesian people voted for, even though he acknowledges the work of political parties in mobilizing voters.
“Do not expunge the president’s prerogative right. The president remains independent despite being supported by political parties,” he said.
Several political parties within the coalition have openly announced requests to be picked into Jokowi’s future cabinet.
Two examples are the National Awakening Party (PKB) that requested 10 slots as state ministers for its party members that was followed by NasDem which asked for 11 slots in the cabinet.
