Abah Grandong, Viral Cat-Eater to Surrender to Police

1 August 2019 09:18 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Central Jakarta Deputy Police Chief Adj. Commissioner Arie Ardian said that police fugitive Abah Grandong - the man who ate a live cat that recently went viral -  will be handing himself over to the police today.

“It will take place at around 9 or 10 o’clock,” said Arie as Tempo reached him yesterday.

According to him, police investigators met with Abah Ardian’s relatives during an investigation and said that Abah will be brought to the police North Jakarta police precinct by family members. “They are the ones who want to present [Abah] to us,” he said.

A brief video that spread on social media several days back saw Abah eating a live cat on camera, which eventually sparked a public outcry and calls to arrest Abah.

According to police, the incident happened when Abah was brought by someone to Jakarta to guard a building – or wall – in the area of Kemayoran, North Jakarta which has been a subject of dispute. Abah was reportedly told to prevent local food stalls from setting business in front of the wall.

During the day of the incident, there were three food stalls set up tents. This led to Abah eating a live cat in an attempt to intimidate owners of food stalls that refused to be moved from the location.
