TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan opened the bicycling event today that promotes non-violence and peace at the India House located at Taman Suropati Street in Central Jakarta.
This event also acts as a commemoration of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th anniversary.
He opened the event by highlighting the environmentally-conscious character of commuting with a bicycle, which he says had been a large part in Mahatma Gandhi’s life.
“Bicycles are a form of transport that is environmentally friendly,” said the governor today who also mentioned that Gandhi had also spent his life bicycling in Ahmedabad, India.
Anies Baswedan argues that Gandhi must be celebrated by the world. Today’s 'Cycling for Non-Violence, Peace & Truth' event was held by the Indian Embassy in Jakarta.
“Moments like these needs to be remembered by the world,” said Anies Baswedan in respect to Gandhi’s legacy.
