TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Bank Mandiri Tbk has set a target to completely recover the amount of money that the bank’s IT system accidentally wired to several of its customers during the system error on Saturday, July 20th.
Bank Mandiri claims that the people returning the money continues to decrease even though they were not keen to disclose the total amount.
“The amount [users] with funds that have yet been returned continues to drop each day. Hopefully, it will be completed by the following week,” said Mandiri’s business and network director Hery Gunardi on Tuesday.
Around 10 percent of Bank Mandiri customers reported experiencing a sudden loss and increase in balance during what is believed to be a system error. This happened as the bank was conducting routine daily maintenance from its core system to a backup system.
There were 2,600 recorded users who experienced an increase in balance inquiry who immediately cashed out.
The last report suggests that there are still 260 customers who have yet returned the money to the bank, which totals to Rp10 billion. Bank Mandiri announced that it will not sanction those who have not returned the money.
