Jokowi to Announce Exact Location of New Capital City in August

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is said to announce the exact location of Indonesia’s new capital city in August of 2019.
“I have mentioned it over and over again that we’ll move to Kalimantan. But, where in Kalimantan? We will announce it in August,” said the president according to the Presidential Secretariat’s press release on Tuesday.
Jokowi admittedly is in no rush in receiving a report of the final decision regarding the capital’s new location, however, he said that it must be decided soon.
“We don’t want to rush it but we would like it to be decided swiftly,” he said.
Up until this moment, the government is still conducting in-depth viability studies regarding the new location from its economic standpoint up to its security and defense element.
The price of lands in Kalimantan has soured following the announcement by the government, which is evident in Central Kalimantan’s Gunung Mas, that sees prices of land increase four-folds.
