SoftBank Director Meets President Jokowi at Merdeka Palace

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - SoftBank President Director Masayoshi Son is reportedly in a meeting with President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo at Jakarta’s Merdeka Palace. This meeting is also attended by Tokopedia founder Tanuwijaya.
SoftBank is one of Japan’s giant corporations actively investing in numerous global companies that include Tokopedia in Indonesia and Grab in Southeast Asia.
In the meeting, Jokowi was accompanied by Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Thomas Lembong, Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, State Secretary Pratikno, Secretary of Cabinet Pramono Anung, and NET Mediatama president commissioner Wishnutama.
The meeting reportedly is to open a number of projects and business opportunities. Some have suggested it is SoftBank’s attempt to enter Indonesia’s unicorn market.
Previously, Southeast Asia’s first decacorn Grab announced USD 1.46 billion investment (Rp 20.4 trillion) from the company’s H series funder, SoftBank Vision Fund (SVF).
