BMKG Installs More Seismic Sensors along the Lembang Fault Line

29 July 2019 07:41 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) is set to install 22 seismic sensors in the West Java region starting in August of this year. The equipment will be placed across the prioritized area passed by the Lembang Fault.

“The potential of an earthquake happening is pretty significant and (since it is located) in the vicinity of major cities and packed residential areas,” said BMKG’s Daryono on Sunday, July 28.

The agency plans to close-in the network between sensors by installing an additional 22 new seismic sensors. He also urged for members of the public to understand that fault movements do not happen suddenly and other activities related to it are preceded with foreshocks.

The seismic monitoring along the fault line will be done constantly around the clock for 24-hours and seven days a week. The Lembang Fault sensors’ will be located at West Bandung District, Bandung District, and Subang.
