TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bogor City administration joins hands with a French company in a research of tram operation as a transportation mode in the city following tthe integration of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) with Baranangsiang terminal.
"Bogor administration has collaborated with a French company to study tram as a mass transportation in Bogor City center," said Bogor Mayor Dedie Rachim, Friday, July 26.
He said that based on the recommendation from the French company, tram can be used as the mass transportation in the city that is connected to the LRT.
According to a temporary review, tram is an affordable transportation and is deemed effective to reach certain locations.
"Tram, that is granted by the Netherlands, in Bogor City among others, can be used as tourists transportation and a connecting transport from LRT," he said.
Dedie explained there will be eight tram stations in Bogor, from Baranangsiang LRT Station, Suryakencana, BTM Mall, Paledang, Bogor Station, Bogor City Hall, Sempur, Lippo Kebun Raya, PMI Hospital, and going back to Baranangsiang LRT Station.
"The main route for the tram is the city center, such as Kebun Raya Bogor or Bogor Botanical Garden, Bogor Palace and Bogor KRL station," he said.
The related agencies are currently studying the technical preparation including connecting it with LRT station, bus terminal, as well as commuter line or KRL, Dedie added.
Bogor City administration and Jabodetabek transportation agency (BPTJ) decided to build final LRT station at Baranangsiang terminal based on presidential regulation (Perpres) on the integration of the LRT in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, and Bekasi.
Dedie said if the technical and administration research run well, the tram will operate in Bogor next year. The rail vehicles will be brought directly from the Netherlands as grants.
