Tangkuban Parahu Eruption, Ridwan Kamil: Do Not Panic

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil requested the people not to panic following the eruption of Mount Tangkuban Parah. He mentioned that the eruption is a local occurrence although the eruption materials had reached Lembang.
"I have coordinated with the BPBD [Regional Disaster Management Agency] and asked them to coordinate with villages,sub-districts, districts. Safety must be a priority," Ridwan Kamil said as quoted from written statement on the sideline of his visit to Sweden on Friday, July 26, 2019.
Ridwan requested tourists and local residents to stay away from the location for the meantime. "Follow the instructions from local officials if required to evacuate," he said.
He also asked for the people not to spread unconfirmed information related to Tangkuban Parahu eruption. Every information is expected to be originated from official sources and has been confirmed.
"Please not easily share hoaxes. We pray and hope for the eruption not to amplify and threatening," RIdwan stated.
The West Java BPBD reported that the eruption, which occurred on Friday afternoon, July 26, 2019, at 3:48 PM, had caused tourists to have respiratory problem. Fortunately, no casualties were reported and there was no need for massive evacuation.
The BPBD has established a joint outpost at the Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center (PVMBG) Observation Post and determined a 2-kilometer safe zone radius from the peak of the volcano. Meanwhile, the nearest settlements is known to be within 7 (seven) kilometers of the volcano.
The PVMBG of the Energy and Mineral Reosurces Ministry stated that the level of activity exhibited by the volcano is still within the Level 1 (normal) category. However, minor tremors continue to be recorded following the initial eruption on Friday afternoon. The Tangkuban Parahu Volcano is declared to be unstable and the status can change in any given time.
