TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tokopedia gave its official response following news of an alleged data collecting by financial technology (fintech) companies on the marketplace's users' confidential data.
Tokopedia's Corporate Communication VP Nuraini Razak assured that users' confidential data have not been collected by any third party.
"Tokopedia did not find any data breach by third parties against our users' confidential data," said Nuraini Razak in an email to Tempo on Friday, July 26, 2019.
She further elaborated that the data in question refers to data of users who are indeed willing to give access and publish their data through the intended third party money lending application.
"We have promptly taken the necessary course of action to continue to maintain the security and comfort of our users," Nuraini added.
Tokopedia maintains that their business is that of reputation and trust, therefore, the confidentiality and security of users' personal data are one of the top priorities for the company.
Previously, reports stated that a Facebook user named Niko Tidar Lantang Perkasa claimed he could access the data of Grab, Gojek, and Tokopedia users by encrypting a fintech lending app.
"Not only that, this app can also record the history of your Grab and Go-Jek trips, I can see detailed data on pick-up location and destination, customer's and driver's phone number, email, GoPay balance, and vehicle plate of drivers," said Niko as quoted from his Facebook on Thursday, July 25, 2019.
Niko said he was shocked to have been able to find many weaknesses and data from the third application which he refused to name.
The post by Niko Perkasa regarding the fraud of fintech has gone viral on social networking sites. As of Thursday, July 25, 2019, the thread gained over 500 comments and had been shared more than 1,300 times on Facebook.
