Illegal TKI Smuggles 8kg Methamphetamine from Malaysia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Tanjung Balai Medan Police have arrested an Indonesian man by identified as Munawir for smuggling methamphetamine on Wednesday, July 24. Munawir, believed to be an illegal migrant worker or TKI, was arriving from Malaysia by boat.
Munawir is a resident of North Aceh, who had in his bag 8 kilograms of sabu, the Indonesian slang for methamphetamine, wrapped inside Milo packages.
The police were conducting a search against 43 Indonesians who had just arrived from Malaysia after working illegally as migrants.
"It was then that we found Munawir's bag," Tanjung Balai Police chief, Adj. Sr. Comr. Irfan Rifai said on Thursday, July 25.
The police arrested Munawir and confiscated the drugs. He was taken to the station for questioning.
Meanwhile, the 42 illegal workers were taken to the Tanjung Balai Class II Immigration Office.
