TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Transportation Agency head Syafrin Liputo said the city administration is mulling over a higher parking tariff to help alleviate congestion in the capital.
“Since the parking is part of traffic control instrument, we will limit lands for parking and increase the tariff,” he said on Thursday, July 25.
According to Syafrin, the plan is still on discussion and will not take effect in near time, aiming to obtain more deep and comprehensive study.
“Many countries, in metropolitan, actually lessen lands for parking area, impose a high rate, and advance their public transportation system,” he added.
The plan is also taken into consideration as available lands eligible for parking lots in the capital continue to decrease.
Previously, Jakarta administration announced that Parking Management Unit of the Transportation Agency recorded the revenue from the parking throughout 2018 is amounted to Rp104.55 billion or 90.16 percent from the target Rp115.96 billion.
This year, the agency is eyeing to gain Rp81 billion from the parking, and as of May 2019, it has reached some Rp33.44 billion.
