TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy chairman of Gerindra Party, Edhy Prabowo, has spoken about the possibility of his party joining the government coalition of Joko Widodo or Jokowi - Ma’ruf Amin following the meeting between the party chief patron Prabowo Subianto and PDIP chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri on Wednesday, July 24.
According to Edhy, yesterday’s meeting did not discuss it that far and his party did not want to disturb the internal coalition of Jokowi because of the issue.
“We don’t want us standing between them and interrupt their coalition,” Edhy said in his office, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday, July 25.
The meeting between Prabowo and Megawati was held in Megawati’s residence on Jalan Teuku Umar, Menteng, Central Jakarta. Edhy said the two figures had an eye-to-eye session for about an hour.
“Their private session lasts longer than the communal meeting,” he said.
After the meeting, Edhy went on, Prabowo told him and Gerindra sec-gen about the talks. To Mega, Prabowo said that the party is willing to help the government and is ready to be an outsider as well.
“We are basically ready if we are needed, but if otherwise, we are okay. No need to worry that we will snatch someone’s position,” he added.
Edhy asserted that Gerindra Party is set to develop the country, but he fully trusted the decision about the party joining the government coalition or not to President Jokowi.
