TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Taking the role as a key speaker in the 'Presidential Lecture' held at Istora Senayan, Vice President Jusuf Kalla urged civil servants to change their mindset regarding their line of work.
“Don’t hold on to the principle of wanting to be served,” said the VP today to the 6,200 civil servant enrollment test (CPNS) candidates present at the event.
Jusuf Kalla recalled the time where civil servants (PNS) were attached to the stigma of demanding to be served, demanded respect, and additional facilities, which he deemed is “out of date,” caused by global competition.
He called for the people to adopt the mindset of serving the public that he sees as the true task of a civil servant, Kalla exampled the tasks overseen by teachers and health employees.
As for civil servants dedicating their hours in the office, Kalla said that they only need to focus on serving the public swiftly and cut dwelling time in terms of implemented permits, administration work, and bureaucracy.
The Presidential Lecture is an event organized by the Administrative Reform and Bureaucratic Reform Ministry (PAN-RB) that is specially held for CPNS’ to help improve the mindset of bureaucrats.
