TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned rolling stock producer PT Industri Kereta Api or PT INKA has sent 26 train coaches to Chittagong Port, Bangladesh, from Surabaya's Tanjung Perak Port. PT INKA still has to send 174 more coaches to the country.
The shipment is part of the export partnership between Indonesia and Bangladesh, which had ordered 250 coaches from PT INKA. The Indonesian company won the tender to procure the cars in 2017, with a contract value of US$100.89 million.
PT INKA president director Budi Noviantoro said that the 26 train cars are expected to arrive at Chittagong Port in early August.
"Our target is to send the remaining 174 before the end of 219," he said in Surabaya, Tuesday, July 23.
In 2016, PT INKA shipped 150 train coaches with a contract value totaling US$72.39 million. Ten years earlier or in 2006, the company shipped 50 coaches for a contract worth US$13.8 million.
