TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) has said it is preparing its cadres to secure the position of the speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR).

“As a party that the people trust, PDIP is also preparing its finest cadres to fill the strategic position of MPR speaker,” PDIP secretary-general Hasto Kristiyanto said in Jakarta, Monday, July 22, 2019.

Hasto said his party took this step to pursue its agenda of returning the national political system and personality that were based on the people.

“The position of MPR speaker is a very strategic one. Of course, we will have dialog with all the parties that have thrown their weight behind Jokowi-Maruf,” he said.

Hasto added PDIP would also strive for acclamation in a plenary assembly to select the next MPR speaker. He said acclamation was part of the harmonious democracy of members of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional Representatives Council (DPD).

“There is nothing wrong with acclamation. This something that showcases the determination of members of DPR and DPD within MPR,” he said.
