TEMPO.COPalembang - The largest oil and gas-producing region in Indonesia, Musi Banyuasin (Muba) Regency in South Sumatra, is set to supply energy as a commitment to support the 35,000 megawatts power project.

Muba Regent Dodi Reza said that his regency ready to supply biofuel energy, besides the fossil fuels. "We're trying to fulfill the need of eco-friendly energy," Dodi Reza said di Palembang, Thursday, July 18.

As stated in the ministerial regulation No. 12/2017, the state electricity company -or PLN- is obliged to purchase power supply from the power plant utilizing renewable energy. Therefore, Dodi viewed that it was a promising market for the welfare of the locals.

The Muba Regency has already collaborated with experts in realizing the project. "We're working on the biofuel with experts from ITB. I have even sounded it to the European market," Regent Dodi Reza explained.

Besides, the regional corporation PT Petro Muba also met with Pertamina Gas (Pertagas) management regarding the development of Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) refinery in Jambi Merang.

In order to fulfill the renewable energy resource or biofuel for the 35,000 MW power project, the Muba Regional Development Agency will use palm kernel as the region is one of the largest palm-producing regions in Sumatra, said the regional development agency head Zulfakar.

He said that the project will be run by Muba Administration and ITB experts.
