TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In his latest video blog, former Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama – who used to be called Ahok but now prefers BTP – looked back to the time he served at the National Police’s Mobile Brigade (Mako Brimob) detention center.
He recalled the six world’s best doctors he met behind bars, which refers to the six life lessons he was fortunate enough to experience.
“As it turns out, the Mako Brimob provided six of the world’s best doctors which I never expected,” said BTP in the Youtube video uploaded on Wednesday, July 17, 2019, where he shared his experiences to an audience at the Reformed Injili Indonesia Church in Samarinda, East Kalimantan.
The six 'doctors' according to Basuki are sunlight, time to rest, exercise, diet, reading books, and lastly, is the company of a group of great friends. All of the aforementioned were activities and elements that he did not experience prior to serving his time.
Pushed by the doctors he mentioned, BTP was able to complete push-ups and maintain his physique, he also went on a diet by fasting throughout the night and only drink warm water if needed, which is a routine he gladly stuck to even to this day.
Ahok also managed to finish reading 47 books in his 2-year sentence and write 615-pages from his experience behind bars, which he said is a form of meditation. The last doctor for the former governor is great friends, which managed to encourage him into singing and playing in the prison band.
