TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deputy chairman Laode M. Syarif said he is disappointed with the joint team that was specifically formed to uncover Novel Baswedan’s assailant, TGPF, failed to do that.
“It’s understandable if the KPK felt let down,” said Laode on Thursday.
He also considers that the team had not presented a significant development to apprehend the perpetrator. However, Laode said the team’s finding asserts the assumption that the attack against Novel was not personally motivated and was mainly because of his line of work.
TGPF’s allegations stating that Novel’s attack was driven by the investigator’s abuse of power was also strongly denied by Laode, who asserted that the KPK always works within the existing legal corridor.
He urged the team to remain focused in finding the person behind the attack rather than looking for reasons to divert from it. KPK leaders are planned to discuss their next step to prevent another attack from happening.
